My name is Ellie McElhenny and this is my 1st year at MIMM's.
I am really excited to start the new year and to get to know students!
I am from Chippewa Falls, WI and moved to Eau Claire for university. I just returned to the midwest from living in Seoul, South Korea for the past 3.5 years. I taught English there, and also got to travel around Southeast Asia. It was really fun, but I am happy to be back!
I received my Bachelors Degree in Psychology and History from the University of WI- Eau Claire. I returned to school while in South Korea to get my teaching license in ESL (English as a Second Language.)
A few things about myself are I love watching scary movies, and cooking all types of food.
We have varied levels of English proficiency at this school so there is not a set curriculum that we use in each grade. Instruction is tailored to meet the students at their level. We also make sure to provide a variety of hands-on activities to help the students engage in their learning.
For our newcomers (WIDA levels 1.0-2.9) we use the ACCESS Newcomers Curriculum, Saddleback Welcome Newcomers Curriculum and Saddleback ELL Teen Literacy Library. The EL teachers also use a plethora of additional resources to supplement the curriculum and make it more hands-on and activity-based.
For the students that are WIDA levels 3.0-4.5 we focus on the following skills to ensure students are equipped to succeed in their content classes:
Quizlet: Class: ELD
