This year marks our seventeenth year of service to students and families of the Minnesota International Middle School.  Our student population today is approximately 430 students. Although the parents and families of our students come from all over the world our students are primarily of East African and Middle Eastern descent. To name just a few, we have students representing countries such as: Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, United Arab Emirates, Syria, and parts of Europe.  Here in Minnesota, our students represent not only the Twin Cities, but additionally, a large portion of the surrounding suburbs around the metro area. Prior to coming to the United States, many of the parents of our children have found homes in a wide variety of countries across Europe, the Middle East and in Canada.  As a result, our students experience a veritable plethora of language encounters in their home and family environment.  All of our students from fifth through eighth grade speak at least one language other than English, and many speak two or more second languages.

Our school is a publicly funded Charter School guided by the same state and federal guidelines pertaining to the No Child Left Behind Act and in making adequate yearly progress.  Over the past several years our school has created, implemented and sustained a number of strategic academic initiatives to address the needs of all learners.  We use a  collaborative teaching teams model to measure, and evaluate student data, and effectuate instructional change based on this information.

As far as academic growth and student achievement, the future for our students and our school is very bright.  In addition, our current and historic financial status is and has been very stable and secure.
